Sunday Stream of Consciousness

Sigh, so two blog posts in a week. So close to the three I planned. I honestly don’t know how it keeps happening. I think it’s largely because my child naps for pretty much the exact amount of time it takes for me to pump and clean up so I haven’t really had any time to do much typing lately. But, I’m on night two of putting the baby to sleep in his little bed (in our room) and then going downstairs with the monitor on. I don’t like it, it means I can’t really listen to the baby breathe and keep him alive with my mind (see: postpartum anxiety, it is a bitch).

I also have not gotten our thank you notes/birth announcements sent which is making me crazy. The idea of doing a combined announcement/thank you note was great, right until the point where it’s hard to do thank you notes while caring for an infant. And now my son is almost five months old (WHY TIME, WHY?) and I still haven’t sent them out.

Last week I went to see an allergist about the repeated hives and food allergies that have been a mess lately. She said that the hives during exercise aren’t common but some people just get them. It’s not an environmental allergy, it’s not a food allergy, it’s just that, well, I’m allergic to exercise. The only real treatment is to pre-treat with an anti-histamine. And it will probably never go away, so, fun times.

She’s also recommending that we repeat all the food allergy tests, which I’ll be interested to see the results of. I have the results from my last tests and holy moly I had forgotten how many things came back as an allergy. Honestly, most of them cause me no difficulty so it’s pretty inconsequential, but if it did, I would be screwed. Especially since olives (olive oil!) and garlic are on that list. What food can you make without those?!

The Saints! They won a game! And Drew Brees broke a record! FINALLY.

We decided we’re going to start Eli on food a month earlier than planned. So we now have a high chair all set up, we’re washing plates and spoons and investigating which foods we want to begin with. Because of my stupid food allergies, we have to do 5 days of each food before introducing a new one, so he’ll be eating avocados for a while. Not sure what the second food will be, but we’re skipping the rice/oat cereal and jumping right into fruits and veggies.

On Friday I was 5 minutes late to work because I could not get out the door on time and the office manager overhead me treating my first patient and commented that he could tell I had been doing this for a long time. To which I replied, um, since May? It’s nice to get compliments like that, hopefully my patient care is as effective as my communication skills.

Speaking of which, I work Tuesday and Friday this week, which, meh, except both times it’s an hour away. Thankfully I get paid for miles when I travel more than 30 miles from home. Due to this rule I’m getting paid for driving over 400 miles in the last 2 weeks. Fun times were had by all.

Tomorrow my sister, Eli and I are going to Mommy Movie Mondays to see Pitch Perfect, then out for soup dumplings, which are the greatest food ever. And just might be what I had today for lunch. To be fair, I suggested we go get them next weekend and my very pregnant sister couldn’t wait that long. You cannot stand between a very pregnant woman and her craving. I’m not really sad about this because soup dumplings are amazing.

Fall TV is back and we are pretty happy in this house. Except I’ve decided I want to watch Criminal Minds, from the beginning, but we have too many shows, so we can’t yet. My life is so hard.

Alright, I am going to finish up the last few things of the evening and then head to bed. Have a great week everyone! I’m going to try my damnedest to blog. We shall see.

Please tell me you’re going to get some good photos of your son’s first taste of all the new foods! Those are the best.

I love Criminal Minds (especially Matthew Gray Gubler – yum!), but for the longest time after having kids, I couldn’t watch it. I couldn’t watch L&O:SVU either. Now my youngest is two years old, and I’ve started watching it again, some might say obsessively as I check every channel every night to see if it’s on somewhere. Perhaps that’s why said youngest child is going through the sleep regression from hell – she’s protecting me from watching disturbing shows about serial killers. It’s for my own good!

Criminal Minds is one of my favorites. What took you so long?

@Devon, I didn’t even know it was a show for so long.

The Chargers were robbed by poor officiating. Just ask my husband :-) He wants the replacements back. Ha!

And I’m not sure but leaky gut an actual diagnosis? I’ve heard a lot about it lately (directed at me and my food intolerance/allergies). Because if it is then that could explain some of the allergies? Either way…being limited in what you can eat pretty much sucks. I feel for you.

    1. AWWW yeah, soup dumplings!!! Love. Being near those, is one advantage of living in the ‘suburban beach town’ part of the city of SF.
    2. I love the taste of garlic, but it kept making me burp like a mofo, so I don’t really eat it anymore, unless it is in something that someone else made, and not too close to bedtime [heartburn is the suck]. I’m still eating tons of delicious food. (If you can do onions or shallots, those still have a lot of flavor!)
