Yes, this is a blog post about my cat. Don’t judge me.
Slappy and I got our first cat, Karma, in 2005. She was a teeny tiny kitten, and sweet as she could be. I loved her almost a ridiculous amount. Which is why it makes perfect sense that she’s mean and hates me. She’s possibly the grouchiest cat you’ll ever meet.
And from the day she became such a moody jerk, I begged Slappy to let me get a second cat. Because Karma? Loves Slappy. So I needed my own cat. And he said that when we moved, we could get a new one. So true to his word, about 10 minutes after we finished moving, we got a kitten. Jacques-Imo.
The transition with Karma was…loud. And stressful. Because the kitten so badly wanted to be Karma’s best friend, and Karma wanted to kill it when it slept.
Which was often, in case you wondered…
Thankfully, things have settled between the two of them. Because frankly, the kitten, who is really a cat now, is more than enough work. Never have I encountered a more mischievous animal in my life.
For example, easily half of the corners of carpet in our house have been torn up and shredded. Did you hear that? That was the sound of our deposit check being cashed. Or how he runs around the house at lightning speed knocking any foods or beverages that might be on a table top onto the ground. He’s especially gifted at knocking over the dark colored ones.
My personal favorite was the pomegranate juice. Do you know what gets pomegranate juice out of light colored carpet? NOTHING. Nothing gets it out.
He’s also food obsessed. He’ll eat any and everything, whether you offer it or not. He has stolen pears, chips, crackers, entire strips of chicken, tomatoes (which are horrible for cats, I KNOW), cookies (sugar and chocolate chip) and basically every food except the one thing the vet told me to give him for an upset stomach (likely related to one of the cookie incidents), pumpkin. Of course.
(This was from when he stuck his whole head in an open box of Ritz Crackers and ran away with one.)

But mostly, he’s become the most loving cat ever. He snuggles and cuddles and purs, and unlike the other cat, doesn’t stand on you, commanding attention but then biting the ever living shit out of you when you give it.
And if you need proof that he’s really my cat, look no further. He’s already excellent at twitter.
Though he struggles with the character count. But then again, don’t we all?

Welcome! I'm Katie, a 28 year old, full-time graduate student who just happened to have brain surgery in November of 2007 to give my ginormous brain a little more space. This blog chronicles my daily life, from relentless headaches to being a doctor's wife. Sit down, get comfortable and stay for a while.

Adorable, I love the pictures, especially the ones of him sleeping. And I don’t judge you cause I would totally make a blog about my dogs if I still had them.

I’m sorry, but Karma is super awesome. You just need to know how to show her love properly.

this is my favorite post of yours to date. I love cats/pets (I have 3 cats/3 dogs) and it’s so much fun to read about someone else who loves their pets as much as I do. The photos were fantastic. I love the one with the puppy in the water dish. Cats rule.

he’s just the cutest! And almost a “snap” for my cat, who is nearly 2.

Awww…I have Scout…an evil cat who loves only me. But she makes my days brighter. And gives everyone else a headache.
Love the pictures!!

I love love love this post! I am such a cat fan, and your cats are adorable. That picture of Karma on the desk considering whether to dive bomb the kitten made me giggle.

Love, love, love this post! Too fun!

He sounds JUST LIKE my kitten, except for the cuddly part. My kitten also really likes to hop onto my entertainment center and block the TV.
Cute kitties, though.

Thank you. Thank you so much for this post. Now I don’t have to feel so alone everytime I post about Frank and Nancy and how much I love them!
You know what the first thing was that really struck me? You got Karma in 2005 (in bold and all caps if it was possible)??? I remember when you got her! I remember the pix you posted of teeny-tiny her. I remember the suggestions for her name! And then she goes and turns on you and loves Slappy instead. Yup, typical.
Jacques-Imo? Awww, he’s a doll. I love the pic with his paw on Karma. He looks a lot like my Frankie, and they sound a lot alike too. Frankie is a big clod who loves everybody and is absolutely sure they all love him right back. Nancy loves only me. I suspect it’s just because I’m the food source, but I’ll take it. I love them so much!
Again, thank you.

Kitties! My parents, sister, and I just introduced our second cat to our first cat. (Long story, but they haven’t met each other since the second cat, Apollo, was a kitten.) Three years later and they have been introduced again… and it’s very loud. At first, my “baby,” Squirt, terrorized him. She’s about the size of an adolescent cat, and he is about three times bigger than her. It was kind of comical, but then he realized that he is bigger than her and now he harasses her.
We can’t quite tell if he’s being a bully or if he just wants to be bestest buddies and she just hates him. Actually, she hates him either way.
Apollo is the clumsy one, sort of like your Jacques-Imo. Squirt is very graceful; I think I’ve only seen her fall three times in the five or so years I’ve had her.
I’m hoping they get along soon, because waking up to two cats literally fighting right over your head? Kinda scary.
Loved the kitty pictures!

My dog just blogged.
No judging here.

Just want to say that I love the way you write. Your humor cracks me up and makes me look like a dork laughing out-loud at the computer! I want to write like you. Oh, and cute kitties too!

Glad you finally have cat love. Our dog loves me best, and I like it that way. Makes me feel powerful or something.

I miss having cats, but I don’t miss them tearing up my house. Now they run wild at my mother’s because my daughter suckered her nana into adopting them from us.
Love the pics. I have some funny ones myself. Cats do some crazy shit.

Pets (and especially cats, but I confess to being somewhat biased) are awesome for distraction and cuddling purposes. So glad that Karma’s aloofness didn’t rub off on the little guy (and what a great name for him!). My dad’s cat, Custer, sounds like a twin as far as crazy antics are concerned, heh. My guys are a bit more mellow, but they are big, at old-man cats. I should prolly post about them on my own blog sometime…
