Katie - Have you seen <a href="http://www.troublethewaterfilm.com/" rel="nofollow">Trouble the Water"</a>? It's a hard movie to watch, but tells a powerful story. I have no idea if it reflects the post-Katrina NOLA that you experienced, but it's definitely worth watching.

I'm bummed I missed your contest. I pretend to like old movies, even though I don't know why I don't like them either. If it came out before 1980, I'm not interested. I also have not seen many, many of the same movies you haven't and I did not have the same parental restrictions. I recommend Death at a Funeral and The Hours.

Shawshank Redemption and ET, I don't watch a lot of movies, in fact if I try I usually fall asleep but these are two of my favorite that I did stay awake for. As for Shawshank Redemption I have watched it several times, something I never do.

Silverado is one of the best westerns ever!!! A real "Cheer the Hero & Boo the Villain" kind of picture. Someone else above mentioned Tombstone and I would second that. It is a fabulous film and Val Kilmer's best ever role.

I know you watched There Something about Mary when you were 16 because I watched it with you. I don't think your mom ever quite forgave me.

Since your cut off was 1998 I will start from there. These aren't the best films, just some of my personal faves.

Five from the 90's:
Pulp Fiction
Shawshank Redemption
Usual Suspects
Big Lebowski
Four Weddings and a Funeral

Five from the 80's:
A Fish Called Wanda
The Untouchables
Aliens
Die Hard
Moonstruck

Five from the 70's
Close Encounters of the 3rd kind
China Town
Animal House
Alien
The Godfather

Five from the 60's:
Lawrence of Arabia
The Lion in Winter
The Graduate
Bonnie and Clyde
Breakfast at Tiffany's

Five from the 50's:
A touch of evil
Sabrina
North by Northwest
Some like it hot
Singin' in the Rain

Five from the 40's:
Citizen Kane
Casablanca
The Third Man
Philadelphia Story
The Maltese Falcon
